The village of Ullapool was founded in 1788 by the British Fisheries Society. They wanted to establish a new port for the herring fishery and engaged the great bridge and canal engineer Thomas Telford to find the perfect spot and he laid out the streets we see today.
Despite its relatively small population of 1300 or so Ullapool is a bustling community with a myriad of events going on round the year.
It is also the port for the Stornoway Ferry serving the island’s of Lewis and Harris.
All around Ullapool lies some of the most spectacular scenery in Scotland with stunning beaches and breathtaking mountains waiting to be explored.
